The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Odisha on Tuesday urged the Election Commission to investigate Congress candidate Ghasiram Majhi, accusing him of concealing criminal records in his nomination affidavit for the Nuapada Assembly by-election.
A delegation, led by BJP state vice president Jatin Mohanty, submitted a petition to the state's Chief Electoral Officer. They alleged that Majhi failed to disclose two cases at the Nuapada police station, which remain pending, despite declaring them in the 2024 general elections.
Majhi was unreachable for comments. The BJP has called for the rejection of his nomination papers and demanded strict legal action under Section 125-'A' of the Representation of the People Act-1951, labeling it a criminal offense.
