In a significant political development, former Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer Kannan Gopinathan, lauded for his stance on democratic freedoms, has officially joined the Congress party. His resignation in 2019 was a protest against the revocation of freedoms in the erstwhile state of Jammu and Kashmir.
Gopinathan's induction into the Congress was marked by the presence of key party figures, K C Venugopal and Pawan Khera, alongside other leaders. They hailed him as a 'brave bureaucrat' with a passion for justice and equity, emphasizing the importance of his decision to align with the grand old party.
Gopinathan articulated his reasons for joining Congress, underscoring a need to combat divisive politics and advocate for freedom of expression. His journey, characterized by interactions across 80-90 districts, affirmed for him that Congress remains the only party capable of steering the nation toward the right path.
