Diplomatic Dialogues: BRICS MENA Meeting in Delhi

India recently chaired the BRICS Deputy Foreign Ministers and Special Envoys for the Middle East and North Africa meeting on April 23-24 in Delhi. Participants expressed "deep concern" over the Middle East situation, discussing critical issues such as Palestine and the ongoing Gaza conflict, reported the Ministry of External Affairs.

The gathering facilitated constructive dialogues on regional developments. Key areas of focus included the humanitarian crisis, post-conflict efforts, zero-tolerance for terrorism, and welcoming Lebanon's ceasefire. Members also stressed the importance of political stability and development in countries like Syria, Yemen, Iraq, Libya, and Sudan.

The meeting underlined the role of organizations such as UNRWA in providing humanitarian aid and emphasized the unacceptability of attacks on UNIFIL in Lebanon. The BRICS MENA members agreed to reconvene under China's chairship in 2027, furthering discussions on Middle East peace and stability.
