A court in Kosovo has handed down life sentences to two ethnic Serbs and a 30-year term to another following a 2023 clash with police that resulted in four deaths and escalated tensions in the Balkans.
The Basic Court in Pristina found the trio guilty of violating Kosovo's constitutional order during an attempted annexation of northern municipalities by Serbia.
Controversy surrounds the case, as 45 individuals were initially charged, but only three were prosecuted. The convicted men intend to appeal the harsh sentences delivered amidst ongoing geopolitical strains involving Serbia and international pressures.
