In a landmark decision, the Pristina court has convicted three individuals on terrorism charges following a violent assault in northern Kosovo in 2023. The orchestrated attack involved Serb gunmen storming a village, resulting in the deaths of four, including a police officer. Blagoje Spasojevic and Vladimir Tolic have been sentenced to life in prison, while Dusan Maksimovic will serve 30 years.
The court heard that the assailants intended to annex parts of northern Kosovo, predominantly inhabited by Serbs, to Serbia. During the confrontation, three gunmen and a Kosovar police officer were killed, and the attackers fled to Serbia, abandoning vehicles stocked with weapons and explosives.
Kosovo authorities have accused Serbia of facilitating the assault, a claim Belgrade denies. Following the verdict, Kosovo's Interior Minister Xhelal Svecla emphasized the need for Serbia to answer for its political and financial support of the attack.
