After 560 grueling days atop a towering 400-foot structure, Gurjeet Singh Khalsa, the determined activist, was finally brought down safely. The dramatic protest highlighted the demand for stringent legislation against sacrilege in Punjab.
Khalsa commenced his unusual demonstration in October 2024, perching himself on the BSNL tower in Patiala, voicing for strict punitive measures against any disrespect towards the Guru Granth Sahib. Thanks to a coordinated effort by firefighters, police, and civil officials, Khalsa was safely descended using a specialized crane-lift.
The Punjab government's recent notification of a more rigorous anti-sacrilege law marked the end of Khalsa's high-altitude protest. Locals watched the event unfold, celebrating amid ceremonial chants as Khalsa expressed gratitude for the newly enacted law, aimed at curbing acts of sacrilege.
