The Gauhati High Court on Friday denied the anticipatory bail request of Congress leader Pawan Khera. He is embroiled in allegations concerning multiple passports and undisclosed foreign properties attributed to Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma's wife.
The single bench of Justice Parthiv Jyoti Saikia turned down Khera's application, which was submitted on Monday following directions from the Supreme Court. The court's decision was listed on its cause list for delivery on Friday.
The allegations have prompted the CM's wife, Riniki Bhuyan Sharma, to file criminal charges under various sections at the Guwahati Crime Branch. Earlier, Telangana High Court granted Khera a week's transit anticipatory bail, which was subsequently challenged by Assam Police in the Supreme Court. The apex court stayed the transit bail and instructed Khera to approach the Gauhati High Court.
