In a crackdown on vehicular fraud, Hyderabad's traffic police have warned the public amid rising incidents of fake or tampered number plates that have led to wrongful traffic fines for legitimate vehicle owners.

Four individuals were apprehended for affixing fraudulent registration numbers on their vehicles, an action intended to avoid fines and deceive enforcement authorities. The suspects deliberately altered their vehicle's registration plates to evade penalties and finance recovery agents, according to Joint Commissioner of Police (Traffic) D Joel Davis.

Authorities emphasized that using fake number plates is a serious offence under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Motor Vehicles Act. Equipped with advanced surveillance technologies like CCTV and Automatic Number Plate Recognition cameras, Hyderabad traffic police continue to monitor and address this issue, encouraging citizens to report any suspicious activity.
