Heartbreak and Healing: Jason Kong's Journey Back to Wang Fuk Court

Five months post-devastation, Jason Kong revisited his charred apartment in Hong Kong's Wang Fuk Court, lighting the way with a torch as he sought mementoes of his late poodle, Bear Bear. The catastrophic fire in November, which had claimed 168 lives, resonates through his personal loss.

The blaze, one of the city's deadliest in decades, led to an unprecedented struggle for survival and control, lasting two days. Tragically, while firefighters saved Bear Bear initially, smoke inhalation cut his life short that very night, leaving Kong and his son with profound grief.

Donning a hard hat, Kong managed to salvage merely 10% of his belongings. Amongst those were significant personal items, evoking powerful mournful emotions in both father and son. With a heavy heart, Kong narrated the sorrowful experience, emphasizing the visceral connection he felt to what was left of his once vibrant home.
