The Bombay High Court has taken a strong stand, discharging four individuals accused in the 2006 Malegaon blasts case while criticizing the National Investigation Agency (NIA). The court highlighted the agency's failure to consider vital evidence gathered by previous agencies, such as the Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS).
The blasts, which claimed 31 lives, have been surrounded by controversy due to conflicting chargesheets submitted by the ATS and the NIA. While initial accusations were directed at nine Muslim men, later investigations shifted focus towards right-wing extremists, resulting in contradictory narratives.
The High Court's recent order has left the case unresolved, as it criticized the NIA for relying on circumstantial evidence and retracted statements without uncovering new evidence. The investigation remains ongoing, with the responsibility for the tragic incident still uncertain.
