The escape occurred when Bhumij exploited a security lapse at Koloriang sub-jail while fetching warm water, citing illness. A massive manhunt was soon launched.
Bhumij was spotted by villagers near Nikja and authorities were alerted, leading to his prompt rearrest. Bhumij was serving a life sentence imposed in 2014.
