Justice Amitav Kumar Gupta: Jharkhand's New Lokayukta
Justice Amitav Kumar Gupta, a retired judge of Jharkhand High Court, has been sworn in as the new Lokayukta. His appointment was made by Governor Santosh Kumar Gangwar following expired vacancies and high court directives to expedite the process. Gupta has a valuable judicial background dating back to 1997.

Justice Amitav Kumar Gupta, a retired judge of the Jharkhand High Court, was sworn in as the state's new Lokayukta on Tuesday. Governor Santosh Kumar Gangwar administered the oath at a ceremony held at the Lok Bhavan.
The position of Lokayukta had remained vacant for several years until Gupta's appointment, which came after the Jharkhand High Court directed the state government to accelerate the process. The ceremony was attended by Chief Minister Hemant Soren among other dignitaries.
Justice Gupta, born on May 31, 1959, has a distinguished career in the judiciary. He completed his LLB and post-graduation from the University of Delhi. His career began in the Bihar Superior Judicial Service in 1997, and he was elevated to the High Court in 2013, before retiring in 2021.
