Intel's India Warranty Woes: NCLAT Halts CCI's Rs 27.38 Crore Penalty

The National Company Law Appellate Tribunal (NCLAT) has granted a stay on the Rs 27.38 crore fine levied by the Competition Commission of India (CCI) against Intel Corporation. The penalty was initially imposed due to Intel's India-specific warranty policy, which CCI deemed anti-competitive.

A two-member bench noted that Intel has paid 25% of the fine and ordered the CCI to refrain from enforcement until the next scheduled hearing. Intel has contested CCI's decision, arguing that they have already retracted the India-specific warranty policy as of April 2024 and duly announced this on their website.

While the CCI argued for further publicity of Intel's policy withdrawal, NCLAT pointed out that the CCI's original order lacks clarity on publication obligations. The matter is set to be heard again on April 24, 2026.
