The government is taking proactive measures to safeguard rural welfare and infrastructure initiatives against potential global supply chain disruptions arising from the West Asia situation. In light of these uncertainties, the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGA) will proceed without interruption, with Rs 17,744 crore allocated for wage payments.
An official statement from the Ministry of Rural Development emphasizes that all entitlements under MGNREGA, including demand-based work and prompt wage payments, will persist, ensuring no dilution. The scheme will maintain current wage rates until the anticipated VB-G RAM G Act introduces enhanced employment guarantees and revised wage rates in 2025.
Meanwhile, rural housing is bolstered by the Pradhan Mantri Awaas Yojana Gramin aiming to construct 4.95 crore houses by 2029. The ministry's strategies include timely benefit transfers, real-time monitoring, and expedited project completions designed to mitigate potential disruptions. Infrastructure developments like the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana and watershed programs are similarly prioritized.
