The Punjab Police made significant progress in the fight against drug trafficking by dismantling a cross-border smuggling module. On Saturday, two individuals were apprehended, and authorities confiscated 64.62 kg of heroin in Amritsar. The anti-drug campaign 'Yudh Nashian Virudh' achieved this major breakthrough.
This successful operation was orchestrated by the Counter-Intelligence wing of the Punjab Police, alongside the State Special Operations Cell in Amritsar. The arrested individuals, Sarwan Singh alias Gujjar and Shamsher Singh alias Shera, were found to have connections with Pakistan-based smugglers and a handler in Portugal.
Preliminary investigations indicated the involvement of notorious Pakistan-based smuggler Moosa, associated with a massive 532-kg heroin case from 2019. Assistant Inspector General, Amritsar, Sukhminder Singh Mann, revealed that the accused had retrieved heroin via drone delivery. Further arrests and recoveries are anticipated as the investigation continues.
