Gujarat's Bold Move: Cracking Down on Narcotics

Gujarat police have intensified their efforts to eliminate drug-related activities by detaining five individuals under the Prevention of Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act. This legislative measure allows for the preventive detention of those habitually involved in drug offenses.

The detainees, identified as Babu Ninama, Ishwar Salat, Manojgiri Goswami, Wahid Panja, and Imran Belim, were previously charged under various sections of the NDPS Act but were out on bail. According to an official release, the action was executed by the Anti-Narcotics Task Force and CID Crime units, following directions from acting DGP KLN Rao.

Emphasizing a zero-tolerance policy towards narcotic crimes, the state government aims to make Gujarat 'nasha mukt' or addiction-free. In 2025, a total of 86 offenders faced detention under the PIT NDPS Act, with 21 detained in the recent four months as part of the state's ongoing crackdown against habitual narco-offenders.
