Romanian Radar Detects Drone Breach During Russian Attack on Ukraine

Romanian radar systems detected a drone intruding into the country's airspace during a Russian overnight offensive targeting Ukraine, according to the defense ministry's announcement on Friday. The drone was tracked until contact was lost near the border village of Chilia Veche.

Romania, a member of both the EU and NATO, has faced numerous airspace violations since Russia's ongoing aggression began. It shares a 650-kilometer land border with Ukraine, making it vulnerable to spillover incidents from the Ukrainian conflict.

These incidents have involved drones entering Romanian airspace and debris from attacks landing within its territory, primarily due to Russia's assaults on Ukrainian ports along the Danube River. The situation underscores the regional tensions exacerbated by the conflict.
