In the wake of Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar's resignation, the state's liquor prohibition policy is under scrutiny. Rashtriya Lok Morcha MLA Madhav Anand has called for a detailed review of the law, highlighting significant revenue losses due to the decade-long ban.
The comprehensive prohibition, implemented in 2016, has reportedly drained Bihar's financial resources to neighboring states and Nepal. Anand emphasized the necessity of re-evaluating the law, arguing that enhanced awareness about liquor's ill effects might offer a more effective alternative to continued prohibition.
Anand had voiced his concerns during a Budget session of the Assembly, eliciting diverse reactions from legislators. Despite criticism, he remains steadfast in urging the government to reconsider the policy, prioritizing educational campaigns over blanket bans.
