Justice Shekhar Kumar Yadav of the Allahabad High Court, who faced an impeachment notice from Rajya Sabha MPs due to his controversial remarks at a VHP event, retired on Wednesday. During his farewell, Yadav insisted his words had been misconstrued, stating he never discriminated based on caste or religion.
In a ceremony attended by high-ranking legal professionals, including Chief Justice Arun Bhansali, Yadav reiterated that he had been unfairly targeted and praised the bar association for their unwavering support. The controversy began after videos surfaced of remarks he allegedly made regarding religion and minority governance.
The impeachment notice gained momentum when 55 opposition MPs signed it, deeming his statements as hate speech. Despite the inquiry and public scrutiny, Yadav stood firm on his judicial impartiality and expressed gratitude for the support from his peers and the legal community.
