Continuing India's proactive maritime diplomacy in the Indo-Pacific, Indian Ocean Ship (IOS) SAGAR—INS Sunayna—arrived at Phuket, Thailand, marking the second port call of its ongoing multinational deployment across the Indian Ocean Region (IOR).
The arrival follows a six-day transit from Malé, Maldives, and underscores India's expanding role in fostering regional cooperation, maritime security, and capacity building under the MAHASAGAR vision—Mutual and Holistic Advancement for Security and Growth Across Regions.

The mission reflects India's commitment to the concept of "One Ocean, One Mission," promoting shared responsibility for maritime safety, stability, and sustainable growth.
Strengthening Defence and Cultural Ties with Thailand
During its port call in Phuket, the ship will engage with the Royal Thai Navy (RTN) through a series of professional interactions aimed at enhancing interoperability, operational coordination, and defence cooperation.
In addition to formal engagements, the visit includes a range of:

Community interactions
These initiatives are designed to deepen people-to-people ties and build lasting camaraderie among participating navies.
The visit coincides with Songkran, Thailand's traditional New Year festival, providing a unique cultural backdrop for strengthening bonds and fostering mutual understanding among international crews.
Enhancing Operational Readiness at Sea
During the transit from Malé, the multinational crew undertook structured training exercises, including seamanship drills and operational evolutions. These activities were aimed at improving:

Coordination in multi-national operations
Such exercises are critical in preparing forces to respond effectively to evolving maritime challenges, including security threats, humanitarian assistance, and disaster relief.
