Carlos Alcaraz Withdraws from Barcelona Open Due to Wrist Injury

Carlos Alcaraz, currently ranked second in the world, has withdrawn from the Barcelona Open following a right wrist injury, as confirmed by tournament organizers on Wednesday.

Alcaraz sustained the injury during a 6-4, 6-2 victory over Otto Virtanen in the first round. Alcaraz, the top seed, was slated to meet Czech player Tomas Machac in the second round before his withdrawal.

Alcaraz expressed his disappointment, stating, "After the tests, we’ve realized that the injury is more serious than any of us expected, and I need to listen to my body." The 22-year-old aims to return in Madrid and Rome while preparing for the French Open starting May 24.
