Carlos Alcaraz Withdraws from Barcelona Open Due to Wrist Injury

World number two, Carlos Alcaraz, has announced his withdrawal from the Barcelona Open following an injury to his right wrist. The Spaniard sustained the injury during a first-round victory over Otto Virtanen, which he completed despite obvious discomfort.

Alcaraz, a two-time Barcelona Open champion, was just back in action after a grueling loss to Jannik Sinner in the Monte-Carlo Masters final. Spanish media revealed that Alcaraz skipped Wednesday's training session before his planned second-round match against Tomas Machac.

Despite this setback, Alcaraz aims to return to the competitive courts in Madrid and Rome to prepare for the defense of his French Open title, commencing on May 24 in Paris.
