Hope Amidst Change: J&K Delimitation and Women's Reservation

As the Parliament gears up for a special session focused on delimitation and women's reservation, PDP president Mehbooba Mufti voiced concerns over the 'illogical' distribution of constituencies in Jammu and Kashmir. She hopes the upcoming exercise will rectify issues seen in 2023.
The former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister highlighted gerrymandering, creating constituencies with fewer voters in Hindu-majority areas. Mufti urged for logical, fair actions as the BJP holds a majority to push through decisions.
Ahead of 2029, the plan is to increase Lok Sabha seats from 543 to 850, operationalizing the women's reservation law. Amendments propose 33% reservation for women in state assemblies, promoting empowerment and youth participation in elections.
