In a remarkable repatriation effort, 345 Tamil Nadu fishermen stranded in Iran due to an ongoing conflict have returned to Chennai. The initiative, coordinated by India's Central Government and supported by the BJP, was described as a reflection of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's commitment to citizen welfare.
The fishermen were caught in a difficult situation as war escalated between Iran, the US, and Israel. Stranded without work since February, they appealed to their families and government for help. The BJP, spearheading the rescue, incurred costs of approximately Rs 3.25 crore to ensure their safe travel home.
Upon arrival, the fishermen received essential amenities and transportation back to their native villages. Union Minister Piyush Goyal praised the Ministry of External Affairs for their relentless coordination, which also assisted fishermen from other Indian states. This operation underscores the government's dedication to protecting its citizens abroad.
