The introduction of the Foreign Contribution Regulation Amendment (FCRA) Bill by the Centre has sparked significant backlash, particularly from DMK Rajya Sabha MP P Wilson, who argues that it unjustly targets Christian properties without justified national security concerns.
According to Wilson, the timing of the bill, coinciding with Easter celebrations, suggests an intentional move against Christians. The bill purportedly aims at the forced acquisition of properties belonging to Christian missions, NGOs, and Churches, raising fears within these communities.
Wilson further condemns the retrospective nature of the property divestment provision, comparing it to armed robbery, and insists that the Modi government has been systematically reducing foreign funding for Christian missions since 2014. He vows that the DMK will oppose the bill in Parliament, emphasizing its importance in serving poor communities irrespective of faith.
