The West Bengal Police have arrested two individuals, including Mofakkarul Islam, the alleged architect of the incident involving the confinement of seven judicial officers in Malda district, according to a senior officer.
Islam was detained at Siliguri's Bagdogra airport as he attempted to flee via flight, said ADG (North Bengal) K Jayaraman. Originating from Itahar in Uttar Dinajpur and currently based in Kolkata, Islam faces three cases for allegedly provoking locals through speeches, leading to the confinement inside the Kaliachak-2 block office.
Despite the NIA taking over the investigation, West Bengal Police vow to continue inquiries into whether more individuals were involved in this potentially premeditated action. So far, 35 people, including an ISF candidate, have been apprehended in connection to the incident.
