Aleksei Galaktionov, a Russian mariner held in Yemen for eight months, has returned to his homeland following medical treatment, authorities revealed on Thursday.

The crew member of a Greek-operated ship, sunk by Houthi militants, received transport via a United Nations aircraft after Russian and Iranian officials collaborated on facilitating his departure.

The Liberia-flagged Eternity C was attacked in July 2025 with sea drones and grenades, part of a larger series of over 100 attacks carried out during the Gaza conflict but ceased after a ceasefire in October.
