India Boosts Business with New Legislation

The Indian Parliament has passed the landmark Jan Vishwas (Amendment of Provisions) Bill, 2026, aimed at advancing ease of living and doing business. Prime Minister Narendra Modi described this development as a welcome move towards enhancing a trust-based governance framework in the country.

The legislation amends 784 provisions across 79 central laws, focusing on decriminalizing and rationalizing minor offenses, thereby reducing the litigation burden and ensuring faster case disposal. Modi highlighted the elimination of outdated rules and regulations as central to this initiative.

The consultative approach in drafting the Bill was praised by Modi, who expressed gratitude to all contributors who supported its passage. The Bill's enactment is expected to create a more business-friendly environment by diminishing harassment and enhancing transparency.
