India and Russia Eye Enhanced Parliamentary Collaboration

A Russian parliamentary delegation, led by Vladimir Yakushev, First Deputy Chairperson of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly, recently visited the Indian Parliament. The delegation, calling on Lok Sabha Speaker Shri Om Birla, discussed avenues to fortify the longstanding India-Russia relationship.

Speaker Birla lauded the delegation's visit, congratulating Yakushev on his leadership role in the Parliamentary Friendship Group of the Federation Council. The appointment underlines Russia's commitment to enhancing parliamentary cooperation with India. The delegates affirmed their nations' historic partnership, rooted deeply in mutual trust and shared interests, especially in defense, trade, and technology sectors.

Significant attention was given to multilateral platforms like the IPU, BRICS Parliamentary Forum, and G20, with both sides underscoring the need for collective responses to global challenges. Topics like space exploration, artificial intelligence, and clean energy emerged as promising areas for future collaboration. Beyond political discourse, cultural ties remain strong, underscored by significant Indian student presence in Russia and the celebration of Indian culture through events like the Bharat Utsav festival in Moscow.
