Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has flagged illegal occupation of over 16,000 kanals of land managed by the Jammu Development Authority (JDA). Nearly 20% of JDA's land is allegedly encroached upon. The chief minister has outlined a phased, legal effort for reclaiming this land, with inspections playing a critical role.
In response to BJP MLA Dr. Narinder Singh Raina's questions, Abdullah clarified that eviction proceedings adhere to statutory regulations under the Jammu and Kashmir Public Premises Act. The measures, coordinated with district authorities, are designed to restore land to legal control without bias against politicians or private citizens.
The chief minister assured stakeholders that a detailed and transparent process is in place to manage encroachments. Lists of encroachers are meticulously maintained by the Revenue Department, ensuring each eviction notice is well-documented. This rigorous process is intended to protect public land and uphold the integrity of the JDA.
