In a significant crackdown on misinformation, authorities in Rajasthan's Bhilwara district arrested ten individuals for allegedly propagating baseless rumours about an impending gas and fuel shortage. The arrests come as officials seek to curb panic and misinformation spread via social media platforms.
The suspects were picked up from various locations across the district after videos they made falsely suggesting a fuel crisis went viral. These videos, officials say, were crafted to manipulate online users by echoing misleading content found elsewhere on the internet.
Bhilwara's Superintendent of Police, Dharmendra Singh, stressed there is no factual shortage of LPG cylinders in the region, warning that legal actions will ensue for similar offences. The police urged citizens to remain vigilant and refrain from partaking in the dissemination of misleading information.
