In a significant development, the Ahilyanagar district unit president of the Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena, Babu Subramanyam Kambalat, faced arrest in connection with a 2016 attempted murder case. Authorities have revealed that Kambalat, actively involved in politics, was previously listed as "absconding" in police records.
The initial case, registered in 2016 at the Ambhora police station in Beed district, involved the alleged assault and serious injury of a laborer working at a wind energy project. While eleven other suspects connected to the case were previously acquitted due to insufficient evidence, recent information led to Kambalat's capture.
Acting on fresh inputs, the Ambhora police successfully arrested the Shiv Sena leader on Tuesday. He was subsequently presented in the Ashti court, which decided to remand him in police custody for a two-day period, according to an official statement.
