In a striking revelation, the Delhi High Court has described the national capital as a 'mandi' for child trafficking, emphasizing the rampant occurrence of such activities at railway stations. The court has sought responses from the railways and police in relation to a petition spotlighting these alarming incidents.
A bench composed of Chief Justice D K Upadhyaya and Justice Tejas Karia raised concerns about the ineffective implementation of existing measures aimed at curbing child trafficking. Despite consistent judicial interventions, the menace persists unabated, compelling the authorities to take serious note and prompt action.
The petition, filed by the Just Rights for Children Alliance, highlighted severe lapses in adherence to the Standard Operating Procedures designed for rescuing and rehabilitating trafficked children. Incidents such as re-trafficking of rescued children further underline the urgent need for reform in the current system, according to the petitioners.
