The Jammu and Kashmir Assembly's privileges committee has summoned PDP legislator Waheed ur Rehman Para, requiring further clarification on a breach of privilege case. This comes after Para asserted via social media that the Assembly Secretariat backed the detention of AAP MLA Mehraj Malik under the Public Safety Act, prompting a show-cause notice last September.
The report from the nine-member privileges committee, headed by Congress MLA Nizam-ud-din Bhat and including members from the National Conference and BJP, was tabled during the ongoing budget session. The committee determined Para's initial explanation to be lacking, necessitating his personal appearance for further elucidation.
Aside from this incident, November 2024 saw Para served another notice under breach of privilege following allegations by National Conference MLA Nazir Ahmad Gurezi that Para used derogatory language against him during a previous House speech.
