The unexpected death of a 32-year-old Nigerian national in police custody has cast a shadow over west Delhi. Officials reported that the man was detained after allegedly ramming his scooter into a police motorcycle near Rajouri Garden metro station. Witnesses described a subsequent scramble as the rider fell and attempted to escape.
The man, identified as Christian Eze Promise, was taken to a special staff office for questioning where he began to feel unwell. Despite immediate medical attention, he was declared dead upon arrival at Guru Gobind Singh Hospital. His untimely demise has prompted a magisterial probe to uncover the circumstances surrounding the incident.
As investigations continue, the case has attracted the attention of the National Human Rights Commission, the Ministry of External Affairs, and the Nigerian High Commission, with all parties keenly awaiting the outcome of concurrent inquiries.
