Safeguarding the Silent Guardians: Protection of Kashmiri Pandits' Heritage

Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah reaffirmed the government's commitment to safeguarding the properties and religious shrines of displaced Kashmiri Pandits during an Assembly session on Wednesday. He highlighted the necessity of a secure environment before Pandits can return to the valley.

Opposing a private member's bill proposed by National Conference legislator Arjun Singh Raju, the Chief Minister expressed willingness to introduce legislation on the issue provided there is community consensus. The bill sought better governance and protection of Kashmiri Hindu shrines in the Union Territory (UT).

Abdullah recounted past efforts to protect Pandit properties and acknowledged the role of local Muslims in preserving temples in their absence. He noted that community unity is essential for any new law, cautioning against divisive actions. Raju withdrew his bill after Abdullah's assurances.
