Optimism in Court: West Bengal Electoral Roll Revision
The Supreme Court expressed optimism about the progress of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in West Bengal. It noted that 47.4 lakh of 60 lakh objections were resolved by March 31. The court directed the establishment of appellate tribunals to handle appeals and ensure payment for judicial personnel.

The Supreme Court has expressed confidence in the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls in West Bengal, reporting that 47.4 lakh objections have been resolved so far.
Chief Justice Surya Kant and the bench noted the establishment of 19 new appellate tribunals aimed at settling disputes over voter list inclusions and exclusions. These tribunals will soon begin operations after an orientation program in Kolkata.
The court emphasized fair processes and the necessity for timely remuneration for judicial officers, directing the Election Commission to accommodate tribunal housing needs and resolve pending objections by early April.
