The Supreme Court criticized the Centre on Monday for engaging in unnecessary litigation, imposing a cost of Rs 25,000 for challenging a Punjab and Haryana High Court decision overturning the dismissal of a CISF official.
Justices B V Nagarathna and Ujjal Bhuyan supported the High Court's ruling, awarding the official back wages and noting the disciplinary action was unduly harsh given the circumstances.
Justice Nagarathna questioned the logic behind the appeal, highlighting the government's role in the backlog of court cases, as previously discussed at a Supreme Court Bar Association conference.
