The Delhi High Court has reprimanded the Centre for its inability to offer a definitive timeline for appointing the chairperson and members to the National Commission for Minorities (NCM), a crucial statutory body.
A bench comprising Chief Justice D K Upadhyaya and Justice Tejas Karia sought a proper affidavit from the Union Ministry of Minority Affairs, questioning the absence of concrete steps in filling these vital posts. The court has expressed dissatisfaction with the vague nature of previous submissions.
The case, submitted by petitioner Mujahid Nafees, highlighted systemic incapacitation of the NCM, emphasizing a need for swift action to uphold the welfare of minority communities in accordance with statutory obligations. The next hearing is scheduled for July 3.
