A delegation from the Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC), led by PCC working president Raman Bhalla, met with the State Election Commissioner, Shantmanu, to advocate for prompt elections in Jammu and Kashmir's panchayats and urban local bodies.
The delegation, comprising prominent members such as chief spokesperson Ravinder Sharma and former minister Yogesh Sawhney, highlighted that no elected local bodies are currently operational in the Union Territory. The tenure of municipalities expired in late 2023, while panchayats and Block Development Councils concluded their terms in early 2024.
The Congress delegation expressed concerns over issues affecting rural and urban communities, including electoral roll revisions, delimitation, and ward reservations. They assured their cooperation in the election process and emphasized involvement of all political parties for effective outcomes, with the SEC promising consideration of their concerns.
