The Himachal Pradesh government has revoked cabinet ranks given to advisors and high-ranking state officials, as per an official order. This strategic decision also includes deferring 20% of their emoluments until September 2026, Chief Secretary Sanjay Gupta reported.

Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu explained these measures on social media, citing severe financial constraints as a reason. He emphasized that these steps are crucial to make the state financially independent.

Critics, including Leader of the Opposition Jai Ram Thakur, labeled the move as a 'political gimmick' following pressure from the Congress high command. The government's decision is seen as a response to the discontinuation of a substantial financial grant by the 16th Finance Commission.
