Greece Calls for Unified Strategy to Secure Strait of Hormuz
Greece opposes individual deals for ships passing through the Strait of Hormuz, seeking a lasting peace solution. The Foreign Minister emphasizes the need for unified international efforts, especially from the UN. Greece's significant role in global shipping is at stake amid regional tensions.
Greece has expressed its opposition to any separate agreements regarding the passage of ships through the Strait of Hormuz, as stated by Foreign Minister George Gerapetritis. He insists on a sustainable, collective solution for peace in the region.
During talks with German counterpart Johann Wadephul in Berlin, Gerapetritis emphasized that effective peace can only be achieved through broader alliances and under the supervision of international organizations like the United Nations.
Greece plays a significant role in global shipping, controlling a major segment of the world's merchant fleet, much of which operates in the Gulf area. The strategic Strait of Hormuz, essential for global oil and gas transport, is currently affected by regional conflicts involving the U.S. and Iran.
