Maharashtra's Cyber Crackdown: Tackling Investment Scams

Maharashtra witnessed 2,163 cybercrimes tied to investment scams last year, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis told the state assembly, disclosing the arrest of 455 individuals. Efforts to combat cyber fraud are intensifying, especially among vulnerable populations like women, children, and the elderly.

Situated in Navi Mumbai, the Maharashtra Cyber Security Project employs cutting-edge technology and skilled personnel to address the threat of cybercrimes. A nodal cyber police station has been established, alongside 50 district cyber labs and police units, to tackle these complex offenses.

Fadnavis reported on significant investment frauds involving deceptive trading apps and social media, causing losses worth crores. Comprehensive awareness campaigns through social media and an official portal aim to educate the public, encouraging them to report cybercrimes via a dedicated helpline.
