The Delhi High Court on Wednesday deliberated over former railway minister Lalu Prasad Yadav's challenge against corruption charges in the alleged land-for-jobs scam. Justice Manoj Jain issued a notice requiring the CBI's response, and instructed the agency not to examine approvers while the petition remains under consideration.
The case involves alleged misconduct during Yadav's tenure as railway minister, with accusations of securing land parcels in exchange for Group D job appointments in the Indian Railways. The court was informed that the case, registered by the CBI in May 2022, claims land was exchanged for jobs allegedly involving Yadav's family and close aides.
Senior advocate Kapil Sibal, representing Yadav, argued no corruption case was evident and questioned the CBI’s reliance on 'information' rather than complaints. The trial court has framed charges under the Prevention of Corruption Act against Yadav and others, but Yadav maintains his not-guilty plea.
