Tamil Nadu's Finance Minister, Thangam Thennarasu, highlighted the state's strategic initiative of directly crediting Rs 5,000 into women's bank accounts. Addressing the assembly, he emphasized the move as a compassionate strategy executed with precision by CM M K Stalin, thwarting attempts to hinder the welfare scheme 'Kalaignar Magalir Urimai Thogai.'

Announced on February 13 by Stalin, the initiative bundled three monthly Rs 1,000 instalments plus a Rs 2,000 summer package for women heads of family ration card holders. Thennarasu reinforced that despite political hurdles and opposition claims of election-related motives, the government advanced the scheme successfully.

The DMK government's five-year tenure underscored Tamil Nadu's progress in economic growth, women empowerment, and industrial development, transforming it into a competitive state on the global stage, as per Thennarasu’s closing remarks on the interim budget debate for 2026-27.
