In a remarkable financial maneuver, Tamil Nadu Finance Minister Thangam Thennarasu announced that Rs 5,000 has been credited directly to the bank accounts of women beneficiaries under the 'Kalaignar Magalir Urimai Thogai' scheme. Chief Minister M K Stalin executed this initiative, aimed at economic empowerment, amidst a politically tense environment.
The strategic disbursal, described by Thennarasu as both compassionate and precise, thwarted efforts by opposition parties to stall the plan prior to upcoming Assembly elections. Stalin's move, which included a Rs 2,000 summer package, showcased the government's determination to uphold welfare measures despite political challenges.
Thennarasu, speaking during the House debate on the interim budget for 2026-27, emphasized the administration's focus on overcoming obstacles to ensure Tamil Nadu's economic growth.
