The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has raised alarms over the misuse of its name and logo by various non-governmental organizations (NGOs) with similar-sounding titles. The commission is concerned that such nomenclatures could mislead the public and erode trust in the statutory body's mandate.
The NHRC has received multiple complaints about these organizations, some even masquerading with credentials suggesting government recognition. The matter has gained urgency with an incident involving a particular NGO named 'National Human Rights Council' registered in Delhi.
In response, the NHRC has demanded swift legal action from state and UT authorities to curb these practices. The commission has called for the cancellation of registrations obtained by misleading means to preserve the integrity of human rights advocacy in the country.
