The Anti-Corruption Bureau has taken significant action by arresting nine individuals, including senior engineers and retired officials, as part of an investigation into a multi-crore corruption case associated with the Jal Jeevan Mission.
According to officials, two companies allegedly secured tenders valued at approximately Rs 960 crore by submitting forged completion certificates. The certificates were purportedly issued by the Indian Railway Construction Company Limited, allegedly in collusion with senior Public Health Engineering Department (PHED) officials.
The investigation also uncovered that PHED senior officials incorporated mandatory site-visit certification clauses in major projects over Rs 50 crore, contrary to norms. This facilitated alleged tender pooling and led to unusually high tender premiums, resulting in financial irregularities. A special investigation team conducted technical and documentary analysis before proceeding with the arrests.
