Senior Congress leader Mani Shankar Aiyar expressed confidence on Sunday that Pinarayi Vijayan will remain the chief minister of Kerala. His comments come as the Congress aims to regain power in the upcoming state Assembly elections. Speaking at an international seminar titled 'Vision 2031: Development and Democracy,' Aiyar advocated for amendments to solidify Kerala's leading position in the Panchayati Raj system.
Recalling Mahatma Gandhi's vision for an inclusive India, Aiyar noted that Kerala, under Marxist-Leninist governance, has made commendable strides towards this goal. Despite his party's absence at the event, Aiyar acknowledged that Kerala leads in Panchayati Raj and meets the expectations set by former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi.
In his plea for legislative reform, Aiyar mentioned Karnataka's exemplary laws and urged Chief Minister Vijayan to champion the cause. Citing significant reports and insights, Aiyar called for practical amendments to reinforce Kerala's status as the best Panchayati Raj state in India.
