Aiyar Calls for Reinforced Panchayati Raj in Kerala

Senior Congress leader Mani Shankar Aiyar on Sunday voiced his belief that Pinarayi Vijayan will remain at the helm as Kerala's Chief Minister, amidst the Congress's efforts to reclaim power in the state. With assembly elections on the horizon, his remarks were made at the international seminar 'Vision 2031: Development and Democracy', inaugurated by Vijayan.

Aiyar, addressing the seminar, advocated for legal amendments to secure Kerala's privileged position in the Panchayati Raj system. Reflecting on Mahatma Gandhi's vision, he noted the irony of Kerala, under a Marxist-Leninist government, leading the way in grassroots governance.

He further highlighted Kerala's fulfillment of Rajiv Gandhi's aspirations, suggesting the state modify its laws based on practical experiences and expert insights. Aiyar concluded by urging Chief Minister Vijayan to champion Panchayati Raj, a cause the Congress once prioritized, ensuring its prosperity in the state.
